Amalfi - another Italian Ristorante in Ghent

We were wandering around Ghent last night in very nice weather looking for a place to sit outside and have a drink.  We found a fairly new Italian restaurant called Amalfi.  It is a very nice and impressive place!  Checking the Internet I found this quick description:

"Amalfi is a three in one: traditional marketplace, espresso bar and Italian restaurant with cuisine cooked on wood-burning pizza oven, grill or rotisserie.

In short, everything at the marketplace, in the bakery and on the menu--the pastas, the pestos, the ceramic dishes and the cherry DeBlasi wood bar--is imported from Italy. Wrought-iron tables and chairs are decorated with hand-painted tiles; no two designs of the 172 are alike. 16 different kinds of homemade gelato, and hard-to-find wines like Montepulciano-Scarlatta and Greco di Tufo make this place even more special."

Here is what I found -

Positives:
  • there is a parking lot with plenty of parking available.
  • they have two covered outdoor dining areas, either one of which would be big enough for the club if we wanted to do an al fresco meeting.
  • it's large and roomy inside with an area suitable for a meeting.
  • they do groups and THEY DON'T MIND SEPARATE CHECKS (hallelujah!).
  • full menu available, and they also offered to do a special menu for our group if we wanted one.
  • located just down the street from Enrico's on Colley avenue, between 20th and 21st street on the left.

Negatives:

  • while the lunch menu looks very resonable, the dinner menu is more expensive than we're used to (cheapest pasta dish I could find was $13, chicken dishes were moderately priced, but the veal was high - imported from Italy?).
  • no separate room for meetings - but this place is so large it's not really a factor like at Franco's.

I have not eaten there yet, but the staff was very, very accomodating when I mentioned doing club meetings there.  Since everything is imported that may explain the higher meal prices.  This place is definitely worth a look - try it out and let us know.  Andy and I plan to try a meal there soon.  Unfortunately, they're so new there is no completed web site as of yet - but I will try to snag a menu and bring it to the club meeting.

Rick
